I love giving and receiving handmade gifts. I find they are often more appreciated than anything you could buy in a store.
This year I’ve made an M&M cookie mix in a jar that is sure to please any baking lover friend or family member. These make great teacher gifts too! I’ve tried, tested and tweaked a few recipes to come up with this one. The final result are these delicious M&M cookies that are crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, not overly sweet and just so easy to make!
Of course there are free printable labels to go with the jars! I’ve designed them with editable text, so you can translate the baking instructions to another language, add a message or even edit with your own recipe instead. You can download them at the bottom of this post.
Now for the M&M cookie mix jars, this is all you need:
- 1 and 1/2 cups all-purpose white flour
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 1/3 cup M&Ms (I used these limited edition Lamington flavoured M&Ms because I liked the colours, but any will do)
- 1/3 cup milk chocolate chips
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract
INSTRUCTIONS
COOKIE MIX JAR: combine the flour, baking soda and salt in the bottom of a 500ml-600ml jar. Tap the jar onto a firm surface to even out the mixture and press it down as much as possible. Next, add in the brown sugar and pack down as much as possible. Next, add in the white sugar and again pack that down. Add in the M&Ms and chocolate chips. Press down firmly. Close the jar, add a ribbon and attach the free printable recipe card.
Note: I used a 500ml jar and really pressed down each layer to make sure everything fit. You can use a bigger jar and fill it up at the top by adding more chocolate chips and/or M&Ms. Packing down and filling the jar up to the top is important to make sure the layers will keep intact.
RECIPE TO ATTACH: Preheat oven to 180°C. Beat butter, egg and vanilla extract in large mixing bowl until blended. Add cookie mix and mix well. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto baking paper lined trays (remember to leave enough gap for the cookies to expand while baking). Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown.
