During the last year, I have developed a new hobby of making toys out of our cardboard boxes. I love that they are recyclable when the kids lose interest and that they cost close to nothing to make! I’ve been wanting to make some DIY cardboard roads for a while and, after a few attempts, I have perfected the templates to get them to work.
And I’m sharing them with you today so you don’t have to go through that process!
DIY Cardboard Roads Template
It was quite a journey to get to the right template, I started with a very basic shape with straight lines but one of my children was upset that the pieces didn’t ‘click’ together so I tried a few different options and finally made them to fit like a puzzle, in a shape that is still fairly easy to cut.
The trick is to trace the template carefully onto the cardboard and use a sharp box cutter or craft knife to cut out the pieces with precision.
Make as many as you like
Cutting cardboard can be time consuming but you can make as many or as little pieces as you like. You can even make them in batches and add to your collection over time!
I finished our roads by using the template as a stencil to paint the road lines with a white paint pen. I think they turned out quite nice and I can see us getting so much play out of them!
