As a mother of 2 little girls, brushing, styling and plaiting hair is a big part of our daily routine. My girls love to request different hairstyles each day, and they also like to try to style my hair, so I knew a hairdresser dramatic play setup would be right up their alley.
I designed these printables last year and we have used them so much since then that I wanted to show them in more detail here on the blog.
Ikea Play Kitchen Hack
As with our other dramatic play scenes, I set this one up using our Ikea Play Kitchen as a base. I just turn the kitchen around and add a sign to the top back panel, in this case a personalised Hair Salon sign. My printable dramatic play kits always include a sign that will fit this panel of the Ikea play kitchen, but also an A4 size that you can use instead if you don’t have one.
Setting up a Hairdresser Dramatic Play Scene
After attaching the Hair Salon sign to the back of our Ikea play kitchen, I added a pricelist, some themed signs like the “please pay here” next to the cash register, and an open/closed sign. I also improvised a little bow display with a piece of ribbon that I clipped some bows into. I think it gave it a bit of charm!
Hairdresser Dramatic Play Signs and Forms
My hairdresser dramatic play printables include a variety of signs and forms for the kids to use in their play, to practice writing and letter recognition, communication and language development.
This kit includes a price list, a sign with the different hairstyles for boys and girls, and my favourite – a customer order form that I laminated for the kids to use with a whiteboard marker.
My girls have the the wooden hairdressing kit toy from Kmart and it goes with these printables perfectly!
I hope this post inspired you to create a new play experience for your little ones.
