Since becoming a mum of two I’ve been having to come up with all sorts of strategies to keep my toddler quiet while the baby naps. In the early days the exhaustion of sleep deprivation was getting to me and I was relying on the TV more often than I would like. I knew I had to do something about it so I started planning activities for my big girl to do at baby’s nap times or when I was busy with feedings and nappy changes. She loves “helping” me around the house and hanging up the washing is something she always wants to do with me, so I decided to make a matching socks game for her to play with.
It’s a super simple activity but kept her engaged for a while and she has played with it in different ways too. This child of mine is not the best at playing independently and has a really short attention span, so anything that keeps her busy for more than 2 minutes is a win in my house!
I know most of my customers and readers are mums just like me, so I thought I would share this matching socks game as a freebie and hope it brings you long periods of quiet play time too!
So here’s how it works:
DOWNLOAD your file.
PRINT – The file comes with 5 pages of socks in different colours/patterns. You can print all or just a few of those pages, the more socks you provide, the more challenging the game will be (fewer socks for a young toddler / all the socks for an older child). I printed them all because my 3 year old is great with puzzles and I wanted to keep her busy for longer.
TRIM – After printing, trim all the designs. If you want the game to last longer you can laminate all the pieces, but that’s not necessary.
PLAY – Match each sock with the corresponding pair. Optional – Make it more fun by adding a clothesline and pegs to hang each pair!
These are brilliant! Thank you for being so generous to share your talents with all of us!
All laminated and only 9 pairs left to cut out. My grands are going to have so much fun with this! Thank You!!
Thanks a lot for this download! It is great!
I cant get the socks to print in color.
Hi Ilene, this sounds like a printer issue. Please make sure your printer has sufficient ink levels and that you haven’t selected the “grayscale” option in the print settings. You can also try printing with the “print as image” checkbox selected. This option is under Print>Advanced in Adobe Reader. Hope this helps!
