My daughter turned 4 last week. I asked her what theme she would like for her party and she went from princesses to unicorns and sharks before finally settling with a rainbow birthday party!
I already had a rainbow birthday party pack in the shop but she wanted something more girly so I chose some pretty pastel colours and designed this new theme.
This year due to the current social distancing restrictions we couldn’t have a big party, but I wasn’t going to let that stop us from celebrating her in style! We could still have balloons and a small decorated table with her favourite treats.
Rainbow Party Food
She loves jelly so we made rainbow jelly cups by layering the different colours. This was a real test to her patience as we had to let each layer set before pouring the next one but she was so excited to see it all finished!
Rainbow Birthday Cake
And we had to have a rainbow cake too! I had made a layered cake before for her first birthday and she specifically asked me to recreate it (I can’t believe she remembered!). She helped me mix the colours into the cake batter, assemble the layers and put the sprinkles on top. I finished it off with a rainbow cake topper.
After singing “Happy Birthday” she watched with excitement as we cut the cake to reveal all the colours.
Rainbow Party Activities
We were lucky to be able to have one of my daughter’s little friends and her parents over for cake, it was simple but fun. The girls loved playing with each other, throwing balloons and colouring the rainbow colouring pages I left on the table for them. I also had a small party bag for each of the children (my 2 girls and our little guest) including stickers, balloons and party blowers – all items I already had in the house.
Rainbow Party Decorations
It didn’t matter that there weren’t many guests. I decorated this party with just a few printables and inexpensive items. I even made a balloon garland for the first time, it was so cheap and easy to make but looked great on the wall along with the rainbow banner. We took pictures, created memories and had lots of video calls with the family around the world.
If you have a little one’s birthday coming up while in isolation, please remember it’s not about the party and the guests, it’s about making them feel loved on their special day. Our girl definitely felt all the love on her birthday!
